Shannon Thomas is part owner of Sydney based, cutting edge fashion boutique desordre. She has a unique gift for throwing together sharp yet playful looks in an instant with just the right amount of risk taking. She’s a beach babe at heart so summer is her season and this is what she offered us in terms of style advice when we caught up recently.A few words that relate to your approach when dressing… My mood and the weather!! How lazy/motivated I am If you could style any woman in the world who would it be? Any girl who is brave and confident - Rihanna would be crazy fun Working on any exciting projects at the moment? Buying for Desordre in Paris! Where we’ll find you this summer… Beach, gym, store… Sydney! I escaped for a few Holidays over winter so grounded this summer Was there a particular piece from the collection that you LOVED and why? Playsuit!! Comfy and easy to style up and down.
We didn’t actually breakfast (we so should have) but we did catch up with the beautiful Natasha Williams from Breakfast With Audrey one sunny Sydney morning. Tash shared her tips for summer style and escaping the heat, she also styled these 2 looks using pieces from our current S/S 13’ ‘the light organic’ collection.
Tell us about your style staples or current high rotation pieces;
Style staples for me are things that will last a lifetime. My favourites have to be a beautiful leather jacket, a perfect pair of boyfriend jeans,a classic white Equipment shirt, and a statement bag (mine currently is Celine).
In what way has Audrey Hepburn influenced your personal approach?
I think there is alot to be said for the way Audrey, along with her pal Givenchy influenced the modern era of style. She had a talent for making the plainest peacoat look like it was priceless, and I think alot of that has to do with her inner confidence and beauty, as cliched as that may sound. I think thats what I look to most, her passion and strength- her later work with UNICEF is of great inspiration to me, proving you can have a love of Givenchy and Valentino and also give back to the world doing something that makes a profound difference.
Any exciting projects coming up for you?
I definitely have a few things happening in the next few months. BWA will be hitting LFW in Feb, and I have a project happening in Thailand later this year. For the most part though, we are building the BWA presence collaborating with lots of amazing designers like you guys!
Where will we find you this summer?
My fiance and I have a weekly breakfast club with some of our best friends that happens around Sydney’s North Shore- our favourite is Balmoral Bathers in summer. Or at the dog beach so our new puppy Ellie can have a swim too. Otherwise lying on our bathroom floor trying to escape the heat.
Was there a particular piece from our summer collection you particularly loved?
Yes! The orange dress I picked for the second shot is AMAZING. Also those Vegan leather visors…TO DIE FOR.
This girl is creative in several fields - Advertising student/dancer/model/fash addict, we just love the way she puts an outfit together, usually finding a beautiful balance of classic shapes with a touch of colour or quirkiness and to finish a kid with cake spirit (we get the feeling Sophie would be quite entertained if she was locked in her wardrobe for hours).
Wouldn’t you agree she looks incredible rocking our petal short in the tangerine floral? Sophie chose to style the look with a classic silk tee, our mulberry vegan leather visor and those fuschia kicks, oh and some delicate metal on her arm.
Below you’ll see what she did with our feather print playsuit!
Here’s what Sophie had to say when we questioned her on all things summer and style:Style is something that’s always changing for me. It’s an ongoing development that really fascinates me. It’s never been a planned thing for me…I’ve always just got up and just put things on. So I guess it really depends on my mood. Style icons, designers/artists you admire? Miroslava Duma, Lena Perminova, Karen O, Clemence Poesy, Sienna Miller, Givenchy, Josh Goot, Karla Spetic and Helmut Lang. Working on any exciting projects at the moment? Ha. Working on uni projects but I don’t think they count and they’re definitely not exciting. Unfortunately it’s that time in the uni semester where everything is put on hold to focus on assessments. My next personal project however is to get this blog of mine up and running, which has been a long time coming. Any plans for summer? I may go to Brisbane and dance in Queensland Ballet’s Christmas Season, which I have done the past two years. They are doing Nutcracker this year, which I absolutely adore as a ballet. Holiday wise I will most definitely spend a few weeks in Byron. I love to be by the ocean as much as possible during the Summer. so you’ll find me there drinking San Pellegrino and eating seafood. Every year I promise myself to get down to the Australian Open in January. It’s yet to happen so hopefully I can make it happen this time round. Any summer staples you come back to season after season? I can’t go past a good white singlet for the summer. Last year I bought this Willow singlet that I wore to death…hopefully it will get me through the summer to come. I also have an abundance of bustiers. I revisit them every summer and accumulate more as the years go on. Funkis clogs are also a summer staple for me. They’re so easy to run around in and subtly give me a bit more height! Was there a particular piece from the collection that you LOVED and why? I absolutely loved the wine playsuit with emerald green flowers. First of all I am a die-hard playsuit fan so it had me at hello. This one however was a perfect mix of sophistication and cheekiness with the cutouts. I can see myself throwing it on during the day or putting heels on it at night and I’ll be good to go. Also, the colour combination was spot on. Another love of mine from the collection was the croc white visor. Since I have cut my hair short I have found it quite difficult to wear hats but this one finally worked on me. It’s just a cute and unusual add on!
